Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 May 2026
Heritage Walker respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how it is used, and your choices.
Data we collect
- Location data to provide walk guidance, nearby points of interest, and narration triggers.
- Walk history, favourites, route mode, and settings stored on-device (optionally synced via iCloud).
- Optional microphone audio for voice questions when you use narration Q&A. The app requests on-device speech recognition when the current language/device supports it.
- Notes you create about heritage sites (stored on-device and optionally synced via iCloud).
- Purchase information for subscriptions and content packs (handled by Apple).
- Sign in with Apple identifier when you choose to create an account.
- iCloud-synced data you choose to sync (walk history, favourites, settings, muted sites, and notes).
How we use data
- To deliver map, navigation, narration, route mode, and voice Q&A features.
- To personalise your experience (favourites, filters, settings, and notes).
- To sync your data across devices when iCloud is enabled.
- To improve performance and reliability.
- If Premium or bring-your-own OpenAI Q&A is active, the transcribed question text and relevant heritage-site context may be sent to OpenAI to generate an answer. Raw microphone audio is not sent to OpenAI by Heritage Walker.
- We store synced data in your private iCloud database and do not sell or share it.
Data sharing
- We do not sell personal data.
- Purchase processing is handled by Apple. We do not receive your payment details.
- Advertising networks and third-party ad tracking are not enabled in the current release. If advertising is introduced in a future release, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosures must be updated before that release ships.
Your choices
- You can disable background location in Settings.
- You can revoke microphone or speech recognition permissions in iOS Settings.
Data retention
- Walk history, notes, and settings are stored on-device.
- You can delete app data by removing the app or using in-app reset options.
Third-party content
- Heritage data may include sources such as OpenStreetMap, Wikidata, and national registers under their respective licences.
- We display attribution in-app.
